Throughout the last couple of years, his company has made progress in being more inclusive toward women, but there is still a long way to go. Although he knows it was an option for him to leave his job, he really wants to stay so he can continue making good changes there, and he frequently chats with his wife about how to make that happen.
Progress is being made on that level, even if it is painfully slow. He has learned to get along with his bosses and not let how they behave bother him, but he knows that as soon as his wife is in the same restaurant as all of them, it’s not going to go well.
His wife will totally call all of his bosses out on how they act at this upcoming dinner, and he really needs her not to do this, so his career doesn’t come into jeopardy.
He thinks it’s a good idea to ask his wife to pretend to act perfect at this company dinner so that he can look better in front of his bosses and their wives.
“I want to sit her down and ask her to basically play the Stepford wife, which is everything she does not stand for (I can’t say that I’m going to enjoy it either),” he explained. “I am also going to offer her the chance to pull out as well, and we can just say the pregnancy on the day is causing some nausea or something.”
“This is a hard conversation to have as I’m asking her to bottle up her core beliefs and personality. Any advice on how to start this conversation as well as how to phrase this conversation?”
