This thirty-one-year-old woman has a sister named Claire, who is thirty-five. And sadly, her sister has been struggling to have children for years now.
Plus, it is especially tough for Claire since, at her age, people are constantly asking her when she will have kids and the like.
“But, somehow, she focuses on what my husband says about the topic and complains about how he constantly makes backhanded comments about her inability to have kids,” she said. Major yikes.
Apparently, her husband has said a plethora of inappropriate comments to Claire about infertility.
For example, her husband once mansplained to Claire that “women in their thirties have less of a chance of bearing children.” He also once mocked Claire’s infertility by calling her garden “barren just like her.”
“I admit that my husband is the type to dish it out. But, her complaining seemed excessive because she never liked him anyway,” she explained.
Well, regardless, the childbearing comments finally piled up enough that last week, during a family dinner at their parent’s house, she and Claire got into a massive fight.
It all began when Claire announced during the family dinner that she was interested in seeking out IVF treatment.
But, following the announcement, her husband had a lot to say. In fact, he apparently approached Claire and suggested that she back out of IVF and find a “better use for her money.

And understandably, this seriously upset Claire– who approached her and described how hurtful and upsetting her husband’s words were. But she did not get it.
“I told her she had a right to be mad, but she needed to stop coming to me to complain about him as if he was my son and try to speak to him instead,” she explained.
“Then she snapped at me, saying she had already talked to him, but since he’s my husband and ‘I’ brought him ‘into’ the family, I should be the one to ‘handle’ him.” She also ended up telling Claire that her reasoning made “no sense,” which prompted Claire to call her selfish and cruel– just like her husband.
Then, her mom also took Claire’s side. In fact, their mom even claimed that she was actually enabling her husband to bully Claire. So, after that, she and her husband left the dinner to go home. But, she has been left pondering the situation ever since.
Her husband believes Claire is being way too sensitive and that he is entitled to give his honest opinion about the IVF treatments. She and her husband also think that she is innocent and that Claire should have never involved her in the argument.
Nonetheless, neither Claire nor her parents will even talk to her now. So, she is not sure if failing to defend Claire from her husband was the right or wrong thing to do.
Do you think Claire should have to put up with these comments from her brother-in-law? If you were Claire’s sister, would you stick up for her?
