A man is currently engaged to his fiancée, and their wedding will be happening in just three more months.
He and his fiancée each have a daughter from their previous relationships. He has a 15-year-old daughter named Spencer, and his fiancée has an 8-year-old daughter named Emma.
Both Spencer and Emma have no issues getting along, but they’re not exactly best friends because of how far apart they are in age.
A year ago, he pooled his money with his ex to purchase an iPad for Spencer, and Spencer adores this piece of technology.
She uses it more than she uses her own laptop, and aside from using it for school, Spencer uses it to keep a diary and draw.
“She takes her iPad everywhere to the point my ex has bought her several cases and things to personalize it,” he explained.
“Emma likes it because ”it looks cute”, but both my fiancée and I have told her that she’s not allowed to use it and that we will buy one for her soon (my fiancée said after the wedding since we’re on a budget now, and I agreed because she’s the one calling the shots on Emma).”
“Well, Emma likes to sit by the stairs and watch videos on my or my fiancée’s phone; five days ago, she took Spencer’s iPad and sat there; she got scared when she heard my fiancée calling her and dropped it.”
Emma ended up smashing the screen on Spencer’s iPad, and when Spencer found out about Emma destroying it, she was incredibly upset.

He did take Spencer’s iPad to see if it could somehow be repaired, but it turned out that it would cost so much it would be cheaper to get Spencer a new one.
When his fiancée found out that Spencer was better off getting a new iPad as opposed to fixing her old one, she mentioned that they could buy one for her and one for Emma after the wedding.
He pointed out to his fiancée that it was not alright to do that, as Spencer having to wait for a new iPad would essentially be punishing her for Emma’s mistake.
His fiancée’s reply was that she has no money to spend, as she is budgeting for her wedding dress, her bridesmaid dresses, and a dress for her mom. He did let her know that he would buy Spencer a new iPad with his own money then, and she laughed at him.
“…The next day, I went to buy it and paid for it on the card we use for the wedding expenses (it has BOTH of our money in it),” he said.
“Both my fiancée and I receive notifications when we use it, and when I got home (I dropped my daughter at my ex’s) she came at me, calling me an AH and saying she’ll now have to get cheaper dresses. She’s calling me an AH because ”I stole from her” (I didn’t, as I said, it has BOTH of our money, and it’s a shared account) and says Spencer could’ve waited a bit.”
He’s left wondering if it was wrong of him to use their wedding fund money to buy Spencer a new iPad. Would you have done the same thing in this situation?
