Believe it or not, pigtails are making a comeback as the latest hair trend. Women are wearing those two little ponytails all over TikTok.
However, many users aren’t wearing pigtails all day because they love them but because they’ll make more money wearing them.
Word has spread around on TikTok that girls in the service industry should start wearing pigtails in order to make more tips, especially from male customers.
As creepy as it sounds, lots of women have started wearing pigtails to their jobs because it surprisingly works for many of them.
The theory is that men will tip women who are wearing pigtails more money because of the youthful look it gives them. Yikes.
One user, in particular, has gone viral for testing out the pigtail theory and creating a series where she sees how much money she makes after wearing a different hairstyle to each work shift.
Bella (@b_woodard) is a waitress and was eager to try the pigtail trick.
“We’re gonna do that today,” Bella explains at the start of her first video.

Bella then slicks her hair back with gel, combs it out, ties it back into two pigtails, and then braids each pigtail. “If this works, I’m just gonna say it is so weird and gross,” says Bella. “But I’m down for more tips, so it doesn’t matter.”
When her braided pigtails are ready to go, her video cuts to Bella giving an update after her shift.
“Y’all were not lying,” Bella continues. “I got a $135 tip by one guy tonight. I’m about to be doing this every day.” Wow!
Bella’s video received over 920,000 likes and tons of comments. People encouraged her to try different styles similar to traditional pigtails to see if they work just as well.
That’s how her series, ‘Trying Different Hairstyles To See Which One Makes The Best Tips’ was born.
Bella has tried everything from braided space buns to bubble braids. However, nothing has worked quite as well as the braided pigtails. One man even gave her a $50 tip on an $18 meal while she was wearing them. It’s crazy!
Not everyone is willing to sport the hairstyle despite the trend and success stories, like one commenter who hilariously wrote, “I wore my hair like that once, and some guy called me Snoop Dog, and I never wore them again,” on one of Bella’s videos.
No matter how you feel about them, sporting pigtails might be your new favorite tactic if you’re a waitress trying to earn a few extra bucks. Just be sure always to be careful!
