Then, the girls took a years-long break from publicly releasing music– partly because fans only knew them as Aly & AJ and would not recognize 78Violet.
It was not until 2015 that the sisters reunited as a public music duo and took back their original name.
Since then, they released the Ten Years EP in 2017, the Sanctuary EP in 2019, and the studio album A Touch of the Beat Gets You Up on Your Feet Gets You Out and Then Into The Sun in 2021.
In fact, Aly & AJ are embarking on a tour with musical theatre actor and singer Ben Platt beginning in Washington state this September.
Afterward, the sisters will be performing throughout the country until late October, when the duo will hit Europe.
So, while Aly & AJ may not have a large presence on mainstream social media over the years, they are still working on their music dream. Plus, according to Aly, that was the sisters’ whole goal in the first place.
“Our goal as artists is not just to sell records and gain notoriety. It’s a much deeper experience.
When people come to an Aly & AJ show, they should come out feeling revived– like they matter. It should feel like a sanctuary,” Aly said in a Vanity Fair interview.
