Flamingo Music Earbuds Review

May 9, 2008

The Flamingo Music earbuds feature EarClick technology which promises to provide a customizable secure fit for your ear that is also “weightless”. The product comes packaged with 6 EarClick ear-pads. I had to try on a few until I was able to find the one that fit my ear right. Once I found the appropriate one, the Flamingo did feel quite comfortable, however the non-appropriate sized ear clicks were just the opposite - they were uncomfortable. So you have to be sure to find the one that is best for you. True to their claim, the headphones did feel quite weightless as well, and the nature of the design does feel very secure - the earphones don’t fall out or get loose the way my iPod earbuds so easily do.

The Flamingo Music also came with a carrying pouch, which is appreciated because I hate carrying around headphones in my bag only to discover later that they’ve gotten all tangled up. Keeping them in a little bag keeps things neat in tidy. A clip is also included as well to keep things neat or to use to attach the earbud’s cable to your clothing or bag strap.

The design of the Flamingo Music is pretty slick and stylish, nothing spectacular but overall nice. Our review pair was colored in chrome and black. Although the Flamingo Music earbuds are a little bigger than your typical earbuds, wearing it in my ear was still pretty unobtrusive. The cable is shielded with a “sports-grade finish”. In other words, the cable isn’t your typical plastic cable that is more likely to snap or suffer from wear and tear.

Unfortunately when it came to sound quality the Flamingo Music suffered from significant tinniness and a lack of bass, even after playing around with the EQ settings. For $49.99 we’re not expecting Bose like quality, but even the standard iPod/iPhone earbuds provide a better audio experience. Is it the worst pair of headphones we’ve ever used? No. But still, for $49.99 we expected more punch.

The Flamingo Music retails for $49.99 and comes in a choice of 4 colors - chrome, black, blistered red or white. iPhone users will be happy to hear that the Flamingo Music is compatible with their favorite phone. Overall, if a high quality audio experience isn’t your priority but rather you are looking for something comfortable and lightweight, than the Flamingo Music might be for you.

Conclusion:

The Good: Available in 4 colors, Comfortable and Weightless

The Bad: Suffers from Tinny Sound and lack of bass

iTunes Sync App Lets You Sync iTunes with Any MP3 Player

May 2, 2008

itunessync.jpgDo you really like iTunes, but you don’t have an ipod? iTunes Sync is a free software app for Windows that lets you sync your non Apple made MP3 player with iTunes. The software works with many popular MP3 players as well as many popular cell phones like the RAZR, and the Nokia N95 just to name a few. However it is not compatible with the Zune - why are we not surprised. iTunes Sync is not compatible for Mac but there is a similar program called SyncTunes available for free for Mac users as well.

iDance WALL-E Will Shake its Nuts and Bolts to Your Music

April 30, 2008

wallemp3.jpgMy Roomba is waiting in great anticapation for the movie WALL-E to come out. Finally a movie about the gentler side of robots, rather than the Terminator. However with any Disney Pixar movie there is always tons of merchandise that will be marketed to buy and this movie will be no different. Over at the Sharper Image (yes they are still in business on-line) they are currently selling for $24.95, the iDance WALL-E which will operate in the same manner as our beloved i-Dog. It will dance and light up and even make sounds along with the music that he hears or pumps out via an audio-in jack or USB port connected to your MP3 player or computer. I’m already getting ready to add this to my ever growing menagerie.

Smoy iPod Case Comes with a Photo Frame

April 29, 2008

smoycase.jpgIt seems we like to put pictures in and on anything these days, just another example of this is the Smoy Photo iPod Case. The Smoy iPod case is a slip cover case made of brown vinyl with a window frame you can slip photos into. The frame size is 15/16″w x 7/8″h which isn’t very big but just big enough to put something meaningful. The vinyl is thin enough to operate without you removing it from the case. Not bad for only $28.00

MP3 Player Alarm Clock with Video Support

April 29, 2008

jwd.jpgOnce and awhile we come across something from our Chinese neighbors that isn’t just a knock off and is pretty worthwhile. We can’t guarantee how well it’s made or if it sounds any good but this device looks cute. The 2.0 Inch TFT Screen MP3 Radio + FM ( what a catchy name….) has just what it says and it works as an  alarm clock, has a built-in speaker, and a 1GB storage capacity, as well as MP3, WMA, and AVI video support. It is also expandable via a SD/MMC expansion slot. For $88.00 it may seem pricey for something from an unknown company but its a pretty unique device, as there aren’t that many dedicated MP3 player / Alarm Clocks out there.

The bag hides a FM Radio along with a set of speakers that can connect to your ipod, phone or MP3 player. In the 90s we carried around boomboxes that played music, and in 2008 we carry around bags that look like boomboxes and play music. Now that is progress. April 18, 2008

skullcandy.jpgSkullCandy is a connoisseur when it comes to making headphones and bags that are hip but very techie. Their latest LINK Hydro Pack is a neat backpack that uses their LINK technology that lets users listen to music while making phone calls through headphones or speakers located right on the straps of the backpack. The pack also promises to be a great outdoor accessory that is designed for 3 seasons and it has convenient access to H20 via its straps, because we are all way too lazy for our own good. The Link Hydro Pack retails for $149.95 and is available in grey/orange or camp. For those of you who are more of a pink bag type, check out the somewhat similar Link Fashion Pack - however it’s not as rugged and doesn’t let you sip and go.

Capacities range from 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB, plus it’s got a microSD slot for expanding which is something we always appreciate. Pricing range from $79.99 to $129.99 depending on the size. Hello Kitty Mp3 Player with Matching Headphones

April 16, 2008

hkmp3player.jpgOh how Ms. Kitty teases us all the time with her wares. The just released a Hello Kitty MP3 player that has an image of Ms. Kitty herself as well as three different switchable ear phones: one with a Hello Kitty red ribbon design, another with a pink crystal, and lastly, one with a crystal butterfly. There Mp3 player also comes with 7 kinds of games to play too. However, financial times must not be so good for Ms. Kitty because the DAP doesn’t even come with built-in memory. The only way to transfer songs on to your player is via a mini-SD card. For $139.99 it’s a little pricey but again for the diehard Hello Kitty Fan, this is just another to add to the treasure chest.

iTrip Auto SmartScan & RoadTrip SmartScan Review

April 3, 2008

roadtrip.jpgWhen I hit the road for a long car trip, I always bring my Nano in order to hear some decent music. I get so tired of the same rotation of music on the popular local stations in the city. So I like to spice it up with variety. I hadn’t had much luck however listening to it decently in the car with other FM transmitters in the past. I was still using that archaic method of connecting my iPod to a the cassette tape and then inserting it into my tape deck. But just like 8 tracks, cassette decks in cars are becoming a thing of the past and getting harder and harder to find. So I was extremely excited when I received the Griffin RoadTrip SmartScan and iTrip Auto SmartScan to review. Off to the rental car company I went… [Read more]
