Katana Arcade Cabinet Doubles as a Jukebox and Computer

May 31, 2007

katana.JPGDesigned to sit on a table top, the Katana arcade cabinet has an old school theme going for it - it looks just like a retro arcade cabinet minus all of the bulk. The Katana sports a 17″ screen, two speakers and a subwoofer, it comes loaded with over 200 games, plus it also functions as a DVD player, a jukebox and a computer. And being that it is a computer, that means you can play regular PC games on it. The custom-built Katana is now available for a starting price of $2,495 and it can even be customized with your name as a custom marquee above the monitor. And actually, that price isn’t outrageous considering that comparable products usually cost even more then that.

fishie.JPGIt’s a fact of life. Cords get tangled, and there is not much you can do about it. Of course, you could get a cord manager to keep things tidy. And if you’re gonna get one, here is a cheap and cute cord manager, if there is such a thing as a cord manager being cute. The Smarter Wrap Fishbone Shape Cord Manager retails for just $1.99 and is available in several colors including pink, red, blue and black.

HP TouchSmart IQ770 PC Review

May 31, 2007

touchsmart.jpgWe think the HP TouchSmart IQ770 PC ($1,800 direct) has taken interactivity to a whole new level in terms of how people communicate with one another. Thus, while the Apple iMac can be credited with embedding the entire innards of a computer into the monitor, the TouchSmart all-in-one PC takes it a step further by effectively incorporating the use of touch screen technology and adding a bit of hardware muscle to drive Microsoft’s Vista Home Premium with Media Center as well as intuitively using its proprietary HP Smart Center Software (more on this later). And while the TouchSmart isn’t all built in to the screen, this by far is not a drawback.

p1000184.JPGNestled under the hood of the TouchSmart PC is a 1.6GHz AMD Turon 64 x2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-52 processor and 2048MB of PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM, a 320GB hard drive, slot-loading DVD burner2 with LightScribe technology and the NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 graphics card with 256 dedicated memory, which is enough to make any hard core computer geek green with envy! Other features include: An integrated 1.3-megapixel HP WebCam with a built-in array microphone, wireless and blue tooth access, a 19” anti-glare touch screen monitor, embedded speakers, a wireless keyboard and mouse, a stylus, FM radio tuner, a NTSC TV tuner and over-the-air ATSC high-definition television tuner and a Media Center Remote Control. Clearly HP did not skimp in the hardware department! Also, we noticed nary a flutter in performance as the TouchSmart PC was able to multi-task with having several applications open at once.

Setting up the HP Touchsmart PC took less than five minutes and HP’s instructions were very easy to follow. The epic-center of the TouchSmart PC is its Smart Center Software which is activated by touching the “home” key on the front bezel of the PC. Thus, incorporating SmartCenter on the touchscreen gives the TouchSmart PC a truly kiosk feel and enhances the computer experience ten-fold. Using your fingers or the stylus to navigate around in the Smart Center is very quick and responsive and although one was compelled to reach for the mouse a few times, eventually using fingers over the stylus became the preferred method of exploration. Designer Handheld Vacuum Set to Stun

May 30, 2007

1007_photo_1_190857.jpgThis handheld vacuum cleaner, designed by Stefano Giovannoni is described as “stylish and space age”. We will have to agree wabout the spage age part, because it looks like the design was ripped off of a phaser. Not that we admit to knowing much about phasers. Anyway, the vacuum is capable of sucking up both liquids and solids and it retails for $139.00

But we’ll stick with those high-heeled shoe cell phone holders we just posted about, because we’re, well, tacky.

Widsets Bring Widgets to your Phone

May 28, 2007

widsets.jpgWhether it’s via Mac OS X’s Dashboard, Vista’s Sidebar, or Yahoo’s Widgets, Widgets are taking desktops by storm for good reason - they’re fun and convenient little ways of accessing information. Finally, one company is actually bringing widgets to your cell phone. With Widsets, set up is as easy as selecting which widgets you want on the WidSets web site and then having them sent to your phone. The service is free, but unfortunately the catch is that not all cell phones are supported. And that leaves me disappointed since my Windows Mobile phone is one of the phones that currently don’t support WidSets. However, WidSets is still in beta, so hopefully they will make the service compatible with more handsets in the near future.

Upcoming Mustek DMS-100D Tries to Take on Slingbox

May 27, 2007

dms100.jpgWe’re not sure why Mustek would want to even bother trying, when Slingbox is already such a successful product. But competition is generally a good thing for consumers. The upcoming Mustek DMS-100D will let you stream TV and video to your PDA, laptop or mobile phone no matter where in the world you are. So if Slingbox does all of that already, why would we bother with this fella? If they make the DMS-100D a lot cheaper then the Slingbox we’ll be all over it. (Source: Stuff Magazine, June ‘07)

Japanese Nintendo DS Games Designed Just for Women

May 27, 2007

lifecoach.jpgWe’re not sure whether these games are kind of cool or totally weird, but that is often how we feel about many things coming from Japan. Apparently there are a couple of games over there for the Nintendo DS that are designed especially for women. Female Power Emergency Up! DS helps women measure their skills in love, fashion, diet, beauty, and fortune telling, My Happy Manner Book teaches young girls how to be a proper lady with lessons on social etiquette, Mainichi Kokorobics DS Therapy is essentially a game where you have sessions with a digital psychiatrist, and finally, Yoga Anywhere helps guide girls with daily Yoga workouts. Magicbox’s Touch 100 Dect Phone Has the Magical Chocolatey Touch

May 25, 2007

90840638_large-touch-twin.jpgWe’ve always been jealous of European cell phones, those guys on the other side of the Atlantic always seem to get the coolest phones first. Now we have another reason to be jealous - of even their landline phones. The Magicbox Touch 100 has touch-sensitive blue keys set against a shiny black surface reminiscent of LG’s Chocolate. The phone also has a clock, alarm, polyphonic ringtones, and a keypad lock, but we really don’t care about all of that, we’re just lusting after it’s slick surface.

It is available in several color choices including pink, red, black, lilac, cream and silver and is very pricey at £299.00. Now those are some expensive beans… (Source: Stuff UK, May ‘07)

iSymphony V1-BLUE Bluetooth Stereo System Works with your iPod and Your Mobile Phone

May 25, 2007

v1blue.jpgThe wall mountable iSymphony V1Blue is a relatively slim little system that manages to pack in a lot of punch feature-wise. It comes with a standard CD player, AM/FM radio, a clock radio, a wireless ipod dock, it can accept USB connections and it even has an SD, MMC and Memory Stick card slots for playing MP3 or WMA files. However, its most exciting feature though in our humble opinion is its bluetooth connectivity which allows you to stream music via A2DP, and you can even use it to connect to your phone to make conference calls via its built-in speakerphone. The V1Blue will alternate between Mobile phone and music with an incoming call notification. As for shear noise power, the stereo system has got a decent 45 watts. The iSymphony V1-BLUE Bluetooth Stereo System retails for $299.
