Gupi the Robotic Guinea Pig
There has been one thing that has always bothered us about Sony’s AIBO, and that is that no one wants to cuddle up with a piece of plastic. Sure the AIBO was cute, but not soft and cuddly like a real pet. In this way, Gupi, the robotic Guinea Pig is miles ahead of previous robotic pets because it’s covered in fake fur, so that it looks and feels like a real pet. Gupi also requires attention and gets moody like a real pet if you don’t give him enough of it. This is version 3 of Gupi the Guinea Pig and he is suped up with touch, infrared, light, attitude and pressure sensors. He reacts to sounds that can cause him to be happy or runaway scared, and he is also capable of interacting with his environment. As a matter of fact, he is so intelligent that he won’t bump in to anything, and he is smart enough to find his way out of a maze. He can also interact with other Gupis and he has the ability to learn to recognize them and share food with them. When he’s hungry Gupi gets charged up by eating his “carrot”, and if his food is nowhere to be found, he’ll even follow the carrot light beam in search of it. Gupi the robotic Guinea Pig retails for £39.95.
