SilverJewelryClub.com Offers New Free Items Every 5 Minutes

July 30, 2006

Sp7378
We’re in no way affiliated with SilverJewelryClub.com, and in general we don’t promote this type of thing. However, this site is something worth taking a look at since it is offerring Free Silver Jewelry. Well sorta free - there is a $5.99 shipping fee. There’s also a wootish flavor to the site - every 5 minutes the offerring changes. So if you missed it the first time, you might never get another chance to get it for "free" again. We’ll admit that we’re a bit hesitant about this site, but a lot of the folks over at the SlickDeals Forum have some good things to say about it.

iGlaze iPod Protector Review

July 28, 2006

Moshi_iglaze
I have to
admit that at first I was a bit skeptical of the iGlaze. Why? Well, I’ve been
through several ipod cases already and I was hesitant to have to take my
delicate ipod out of it’s current case. No matter how careful I’ve been with my
ipod, it still has plenty of scuff marks on its front side.

However I
was tempted by iGlaze’s premise to “protect & beautify”. Fotunately I took
the plunge. I unpacked the iGlaze, aligned it on top of the ipod’s face, and
pressed down. The whole process took about a minute. I am so glad that I took a
chance with the iGlaze because my ipod looks better than ever - or rather it
looks like a brand new, just out of the box U2 iPod. Except my “new” U2 ipod
is more scratch resistant than the real one.

JVC’s XA-F57E Basic DAP comes in Several Colors

July 27, 2006

Xaf57pawr
JVC’s XA-F57E is nothing to get too excited about, except for the fact that it’s available in 4 different colors - silver, blue and two more with different shades of pink. Other then that, the player supports Mp3, WMA and WMA-DRM files, it comes with just 512mb of memory, has an 11 hour battery life, and an LCD with a backlight. Overall, the player feels very 2004. But if JVC sells these cheap enough, they might score some pink-loving customers.

Sghe870
A new day, a new light pink phone for girly-girls. The Samsung SGH-E870 is a triband clamshell GSM phone that has GPRS, Bluetooth, a speakerphone, a 1.3 megapixel camera, supports Java applications, weighs just 85 grams, and it has a crisp TFT LCD on the inside and a color OLED display on the outside. It’s available in Chic White, Valentine Pink and Chilli blue. The SGH-E870 comes with a nice 80mb of internal memory which can be expanded via a Transflash/micro SD slot. The phone retails for about $330 USD. Cnet Asia reviewed it and gave it a Very Good rating of 7.4.
2006 has definately been the year of pink and other colorful phones, no doubt an improvement over the blandness of previous years. But frusteratingly most of the phones that are available in pink are not high-end smartphones that can do it all. Would it be so much to ask for a Motorola Q or a Treo that came in Pink too?

New Browsers Let you Surf the Web in 3D

July 20, 2006

01425sz1i13018500
If you’re antsy waiting around for Windows Vista upcoming Aero 3D
interface, or if in general you like 3D, then you’ll want to try out one of
these three 3D browsers made for the web. ExtremeTech  has a run down on the difference between these three, as well as their unique features. Between the the whole lot; 3B, Browse 3D, and SphereXplorer, none of them got a really good rating, so don’t get rid of ole’ two dimensional Firefox just yet. While we love 3D for games and some movies, we think that 3D browsers are a
bit overkill and that for the near future it will just remain a sort of novelty. However, fifty rears from now
is a whole other story, since we’ll probably be living in a web browser by then.

Cnet Transforms Retro Mac into an iPod Speaker

July 19, 2006

714final415x246
Not too long ago PC Magazine showed their readers how to transform an iPod into a portable stereo system using an old boombox. The guys over at Cnet have accomplished a similar endevor by tranformming a relic of a Mac into an iPod speaker.
All this salvaging of old tech has got me brainstorming. I was just about to throw out some old Windows 95 CDs, but I’m thinking now that maybe they’ll make great coasters one day.

Great Tech Resources for Girls and Women

July 19, 2006

Girl_circuit_board

There are a growing number of viable resources that are available for
women wanting to embark in a career in the Information Technology and the
Sciences field.  The National Center for Women & Information Technology
(NCWIT), was created to ensure
that women’s knowledge and skills are fully represented in the
creation, development, and consumption of information technology.
NCWIT’s who’s who list is comprised of women executives and
innovators from some of the world leaders in technology (think Cisco,
Microsoft, and Apple just to name a few).

What’s even more encouraging that there are sites geared towards girls
and young women that provide info about all phases of technology; From the
internet’s creation, to explaining the difference between a router or a switch and how it functions, to discussing what a packet and a virus is. I spent a great deal of time
at the following sites, and each site provided
a wealth of information on the many facets of Information Technology and Science.
All of the sites are very interactive and intuitive and are fun and very educational! - Kevin Geter
