High-Tech Washers & Dryers

October 30, 2005 · Print This Article

Stntxx5qHeaven knows how many times I’ve forgotten to get the laundry out of the washer or dryer, so I can only imagine how difficult it must be for busy college students to remember to check on their laundry. This year, lucky co-eds at several dorms at the University of Louisville and Northeastern University in Boston will be able to make use of state-of-the-art washers and dryers that can be accessed via the web to see whether a machine is available or how many minutes remain in a cycle. Machines can even send an e-mail or SMS when a wash is done or a dryer opens up. Now if only they would start manufacturing these for home users, they’d already have one customer. When I was in college this is how Sunday morning was spent twice a month—doing laundry. If you got there early enough, there wasn’t anyone around and you had every machine to yourself. All the laundry was done within an hour.
Why do we make life so complicated and try to push it off as being easier (???).
