How to Get Rid of the Scratches on Your Ipod Nano
September 29, 2005
I’ve mentioned it before… the Nano is gorgeous but it gets easily scuffed up.Of course by now most of you have heard about the numerous complaints regarding
the quality of the Nano’s material. Apple’s response has basically been "Too
bad, buy a case." My Nano got scratched up from carrying it in a denim pocket.
When I took it out of my pocket and noticed the scratches, I instinctively wiped
it on my shirt. That only made things worse. Being the gadget perfectionist that
I am, I shelled out $30 and purchased iCleaner for my Black Nano. It helped
somewhat, but my Nano still didn’t look like new. Turns out that $4 might be all
you need to give your Nano a good facial. Todd Dailey has discovered a way to
use Brasso to restore your Nano’s original good looks. Brasso stock is about to
go way up. (Source: Todd Dailey via TUAW)
The Buzz Report with Molly Wood
September 27, 2005
Cnet.com, one of the best resources for technology out there, has specialweekly "Buzz Reports" with Molly Wood. Each Report contains a recap of the
latest technology news that happened that week. The Buzz Report is short, clever
and entertaining. There seems to be a trend in the Media to have "Barbie Doll"
women on TV shows that are assumed to be mostly watched by men. This is
usually done to "capture" the male audience’s attention. What is nice about the
Buzz Report is that not only does it star a woman, but that Molly Wood is your
average woman that can you can identify with. Cheers to Cnet.com for recognizing
the female audience. Whether or not this was intentional or not - I don’t know,
but either way the Buzz Report is entertaining and worth checking out for your
weekly dose of Tech.

The PQI mTrix PMP for Women
September 26, 2005
The PQI mTrix is a new tiny Portable Media Player that weighs only 115grams with a 2 inch TFT-LCD screen . It supports MPEG and DiVX video files,
JPEG image files, and MP3, WMA, WAV music files. The company says that the PQI
mTrix is aimed towards women customers - what, and it’s not pink? The fact that
it is very small and light does makes it very lady friendly. However, girls like
power too and this PMP only comes with a meager 32mb. Thank goodness it’s
expandable via SD/MMC cards. But still… do they think we don’t know that 32mb
is a joke?
has officially announced that the Pink Razr will be out for the holidays. (Source: Mobile Mag)
Etch a Design onto your Ipod or Powerbook
September 25, 2005
When it comes to iPods and laptops, there are already a large assortmentof cases, skins, custom paint jobs, and even jewelry accessories that are
available to personalize your favorite gadgets with. Here is yet another way to
customize your iPod or Powerbook laptop. Etchamac.com does custom laser etchings
for your iPod, iPod mini, or Powerbook. You can have them
etch in anything from family pictures to corporate logos, line art, your
favorite team, or your own custom design. The process is
quick, clean, and permanent. Pricing will probably not be cheap, however if you
have the cash, the results on the Powerbooks look quite spectacular.

Free 411 For your Cellular Phone
September 23, 2005
Wireless carriers already suck away our money with fees and taxes, which iswhy most of us try to avoid using 411 unless we have too. Turns out, we might
not have to worry about paying for directory assistance anymore. Free411.com is
offering free 411 services in exchange for listening to an advertisement before
being directed to an agent. All you have to do is dial 1-800-Free411, listen to
a 10 second ad, and then you will be connected to an operator. And no worries
about quality of service, the company claims to use the same directory
assistance data from the same sources as phone carriers. So far this all sounds almost to
good to be true - listening to a 10 second advertisement is a small price to pay
for free 411, I just hope they don’t go out of business or get bought out like
so many other novelty free services have in the past. (Anyone remember when
College Club offered free voicemail, Onebox offered free fax, voice and e-mail
Box services, or Netzero when it really cost Zero?) (Source: News.com)
Poll Claims Women Spend More Time Interacting with Tech than Men
September 22, 2005
Women DO spend more time per day interacting with Technology than men, orat least according to this poll they do. According to Sync Magazine, the average
female watches 151 minutes of TV in the evening as opposed to an average 130
minutes for men. Women also beat out men with sending personal e-mail
by spending an average of 147 minutes per day sending personal email while men
spend an average of 87 minutes per day. This last figure might not come as a big surprise, it turns out that women
also spend more time on a telephone call with a friend - 80 minutes per day
versus an average male’s 47 minutes.

Samsung YP-T8 Mini Review and Why It’s Better than the Ipod Nano
September 20, 2005
There are other detailed YP-T8 reviews out there so this is more of a "Why theSamsung YP-T8 is a better buy then the Ipod Nano" mini review.
First off, the Audio
quality of the YP-T8 is overwhelmingly superior to the Nano. The Nano’s
audio seems good until you listen to the YP-T8 which blows you away. Testing was done using several different earphone sets on each device. Notably the earphones supplied with the YP-T8 are significantly superior to the
earphones included with the Nano. Sound
quality can definitely be subjective, but overwhelmingly everyone who tested
both devices agreed that the YP-T8 has superior sound quality. Personally I
think that the YP-T8 has the best audio quality I’ve ever listened to on any Mp3
Player.
In terms of size the YP-T8 is actually smaller than the Nano lengthwise. Apple is marketing the Nano as "Impossibly Small" - and it really is, so
that just makes you wander about how small the YP-T8 is. However, the YP-T8 is a
little thicker and slightly wider than the Nano, however it is still very easy
to hold and it fits comfortably in your hand. As far as weight goes, the YP-T8 is slightlier heavier weighing in at 1.94 ounces versus the Nano’s 1.5 ounces.
Pansonic’s SDR-S100 & SDRS300 Super Small Digital Video Recorders
September 19, 2005
Pansonic’s newest Camcorders, the SDR-S100 and SDR-S300, might not come in pink like Sony’srecent DSC-M2, but the SDR-S100 and SDR-S300 are
possibly cuter because they are world’s smallest and lightest 3-CCD cameras. The camcorders measure
just 49.9 Ã 96.7 Ã 80.4 mm and weigh 242 grams without battery. The cameras will both come with a 2-gigabyte
SD card that can hold upto 100 minutes of MPEG2 video in long play mode, or
about 1,280 3.1-megapixel still images in fine mode. By using an SD card the
benefits include a reduced overall size, plus SD offers the convenience of
high-speed data transfer without using a cable, so that you can easily transfer
movies directly off the Secure Digital Card. Also, both cameras
will feature a large 2.8-inch multi-angle LCD screenand MEGA O.I.S. (optical image
stabilizer) which helps take away the common shaking effect caused by taping
while holding the camera in your hand.
Finally, another great feature of these twomodels is that they can record video and still images in the widescreen 16:9
aspect ratio. The SDR-S100 and S300 certainly seem like a lot of power in a
small package, unfortunately there is no word on the price yet.

Ipod Sock Monsters and other Whacky Ipod Cases
September 15, 2005
Stickers. There are even some "ipod Sock Monsters" (bottom left) in case you
decide to dress your ipod up this Halloween. Overall they have some really unique
designs and their prices are affordable. I just wish they had some Ipod Nano
cases already! I got the Nano, and it truly is beautiful - but it gets scuff
marks practically just by looking at it. Bring on the Ipod Nano cases
please!
The New Sony DSC-M2 Digital/Video Camera available in Pink
September 14, 2005
The DSC-M2 digital camera is the replacement for Sony’s DSC-M1. What’s exciting
about the new DSC-M2, is that instead of just coming in boring old dark gray,
it’ll be available in a few colors including pink. When Sony begins sporting Pink products, you know they must be trying hard to nab more female customers. For those of you wondering about the DSC-M2’s specs
- it records Mpeg-4, has a 2.5" swivel-screen, a Super HAD 5.1MP CCD, supports
VGA (640×480) 30fps video recording, has a Carl Seiss Barrio Tessar F3.5-4.4
lense, it measures 51.2×123.1×32.4mm and is pretty lightweight at just 180 grams. (Source: Akihabara News)

Juice Bags with Solar Panels
September 12, 2005
Backpacks with solar panels that power your gadgets on the go have been popping
up a lot lately. Till now they’ve all seemed drab because they all came in
black. One company has caught my attention because they manufacture solar panel
backpacks that come in a choice of black, yellow, red, charcoal gray, dark
green, and woodlands camo. The "Juice bags" measure 15" wide x 18" long and are 4.5"
Deep. The bags include a Universal CLA/Car Charger, a water proof solar panel, a
large padded compartment for comfortable laptop transport, as well as lots of
compartments for other electronics and accessories.

Neighbornode and the Neighborhood Wifi
September 9, 2005
Popular Science has an article about a new trend of wifi hotspots thatare being set up in neighborhoods so that people can get free internet access,
while at the same time being able to learn about and interact with their
neighbors and their neighborhood. When someone uses the
neighborhood wifi to access the Web, he is first directed to a home page with a
message board, classified section and photo page to help neighbors recognize one
another. These new
communal wireless projects are being dubbed "Neighbornodes."
Neighborhoodnodes are relatively easy to set up and are slowly popping up
around the country. New
York City has 18 of them, and eight other nodes have popped up in Broken Arrow,
Oklahoma, and Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. In case you’re interested in setting up your own Neighbornode, Popular
Science has information on how to set one up.

thinner, but what if there was an Ipod the size of an insect? GPrime.net has a
hilarious parody video on the Ipod Flea.

Artificial Fireflies
September 7, 2005
When we were kids we tried capturing fireflies and placing them in a jar sothat we could see them light up at night. It was never easy, and I don’t
remember being very successful with it. Firefly
Magic Lights are essentially artificial fireflies powered by electricity.
They flash, flicker and fade just like real fireflies, but unlike fireflies
which have short life spans, the Firefly Magic Lights will last for over 100,000
hours. (Source: Thanks to Jay at Kitchen

More Mp3 Players that come in Pastels
September 6, 2005
Dapreview.net has a photograph of an assortment of mp3 players that all come in
a selection of different pastel colors. It seems that the Ipod Mini’s success
with pastels has certainly spun a slew of attempts to cash in on people’s desire
for a choice. I’m not complaining, but I’d like more colors to choose from that
aren’t just pastels.

Techie Camps for Teen Girls
September 5, 2005
This past July, the Girls Go Tech Leadership Institutebrought together a group of 24 Girl Scouts from across the U.S. for
a program immersed in engineering, space science, and
criminal forensics. Their main project included having teams design a utopian
community on Mars. I wish they had this program back when I was a teen,
it sure beats basket weaving. (Source: Wired Magazine, September 2005)
